AXL Guitars is a Chinese guitar manufacturing company which also produces bass guitars and guitar amplifiers. The company has become known for the rather unusual body styles employed in its "Mayhem" series of guitars and also the worn in look of the "Badwater" series as well as the relative low-cost of the instruments it produces (with most models of guitars and basses priced under $400 at AXL dealers). The company has a guitar design team in the United States.
In 2009, Steve Fryette, formerly of VHT amplifiers, sold naming rights of his company to AXL, and renamed his company "Fryette Amplification," but has kept all of his amp designs and patents. AXL, under the VHT name, has recently released 2 new line of amplifiers, the Special series and Standard series.
All models of AXL Guitars come with EMG-Designed Pickups.
At the NAMM show in 2011 AXl announced its first American assembled guitars from Hayward, CA. The first to be available will be the Badwater USA 1120 equipped with Seymour Duncan Seth Lover pickups.[1][2]
